Meet Maria Gustafsson, perhaps better known as @MariasGarn in the knitting society? Maria designs both clothes and small knitwear consisting of socks, mittens, hats, collars etc.
– I love yarn, mainly natural materials and wool is my absolute favourite. A locally produced rustic, slightly torn and lanolin-rich wool yarn can give me shivers of joy, says Maria.

Maria has many strings to her professional bow, in 2006 she decided to realize the dream of “working with something textile” and opened the yarn shop Marias garn on S:t Paulsgatan in Stockholm.
The shop’s range included only yarns made from natural materials, her own hand-painted yarns, and her own knitting designs.
– Today I don’t have the shop anymore but mainly work with holding courses and designing knitted and crocheted items for various yarn suppliers, weekly press and under my own name (marias garn),” says Maria.

Creating her own models is a must for Maria, even when she knits from other people’s descriptions.

– Even when I started knitting, I often used parts from several descriptions to create the garment I wanted to make. The only thing that is certain is that I very rarely knit the same thing several times, even when I knit according to my own descriptions,” says Maria.
Today, she designs from the first stitch and also records what she has done so that others can knit the same or similar garments.
